The purpose of the ComputerNostalgia.net web site is to provide a repository of articles and photos relating to the history of computer hardware, software, games, operating systems, applications, companies, and people. The idea behind the site is that users can contribute new content or edit existing content. In time, hopefully, the site will contain a sufficient number of articles and photos to make it a useful reference point for people interested in any aspect of computer history. The site is a CMS, or Content Management System. A CMS is an application designed to store, format, reproduce and manage Web/intranet data (content). The CMS usually uses a database (as this site does) to store the content and a server-side scripting language (PHP in our case) to recall and present the data. The site was developed towards the end of 2005 to celebrate, for me, twenty years in the computer industry. When you log on, cookies are used to perform user validation between pages. If you've got cookies disabled, you won't be able to use some parts of the site. You will be able to browse the articles and photos though. Development environmentThe web site was developed (using object-oriented programming techniques) in the following environment.
Development toolThe web site was developed using TextPad 4.7.2 from Helios Software Solutions. Test environmentsThe web site has been tested in the following environments.
