Toshihiro Nishikado designed and programmed the computer game Space Invaders for Japanese company Taito Corporation in 1978.

Prior to the release of Space Invaders, the company was a manufacturer of Pachinko games, where players drop balls into a coloured playfield and guide them into holes to win points.
